Mitsubishi Chemical’s Plant-Derived Plastic Adopted in New Dongfeng Nissan Teana AI Speaker

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) announced that its bio-based engineering plastic, DURABIO™, has been selected for use in the AI speaker components of the new Teana, launched in China by Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company in November 2025, according to a news release by the company.

DURABIO™, developed from plant-derived isosorbide, offers higher transparency and superior optical properties compared to conventional polycarbonate resins. Despite being sourced from renewable materials, the polymer demonstrates strong weather resistance and durability, making it suitable for high-performance applications.

The new Teana’s dashboard incorporates an AI speaker designed in an inverted pyramid shape. The device illuminates with six light pillars capable of producing 256 colors, creating a dynamic and crystal-like visual effect that enhances the vehicle’s interior ambience.

MCC stated that DURABIO™ was chosen for its exceptional design flexibility, clarity, and optical qualities, allowing for a luxurious and vibrant interior without the need for an additional clear coating.

The company plans to continue expanding its DURABIO™ lineup, aiming to provide more high-value, sustainable materials for next-generation automotive and consumer applications.

Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company is a joint venture between Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Motor Group.
